Tucker knew it was time to let go of Malcolm, but he felt way too good to get up and start moving around right then. The sun would be up soon, though. There was tradition to be minded. Tradition was everything to his kind. It helped protect against the dangers of a human-dominated world.

Humans thought the wolven were the beasts, the savages, but the wolven could never keep with the atrocities of humans. Throughout history, they’d hunted the wolven. Slaughtered them. Rejected them as monsters, which was just why human mates were not always immediately accepted. First, they had to accept the wolven.

If they didn’t…Tucker closed his eyes, not even wanting to think about that. While he could escape those kinds of pessimistic thoughts, he couldn’t escape the clock that was slowly ticking down somewhere. It didn’t matter where. It didn’t change the fact that time was running out.

Nothing could change the fact that his brother was annoying.

Tucker grumbled as his litter mate came up to shake him awake. Typical Logan, he didn’t use his hands but stuck a foot on Tucker’s back and all but shoved him over.

“Time to get up, runt.”

If the foot hadn’t been designed to get a response, the runt taunt had, especially because everybody knew that Travis was the real runt. He’d been born five ounces lighter than any of them and five minutes after the rest of them. Tucker had come first, making him not the runt but the eldest.

Logan was in the middle, which meant he was easy going enough but loved to pick on Tucker. Travis just loved to pick fights, probably because he was not only the youngest but also the shortest and the meanest. That didn’t mean he could take Tucker. One thing Tucker knew for sure. Logan couldn’t take him.

Tucker would have proven that point to Logan if he hadn’t exhausted himself fucking his mate senseless. It had never been like that before. Sex had always been good, sometimes even great, but last night had been intense, the pleasure going beyond words. That was just what it was supposed to be like with a mate.

“Did you hear me, runt?” Logan prodded Tucker again with his damn foot.

This time, though, Tucker turned with a lethal quickness to latch onto Logan’s ankle. He gave it a hard jerk, pulling his brother’s leg right out from underneath him and causing Logan to go crashing down. He came up growling, his eyes glinting, but before he could lunge at Tucker, Mac stepped up to whack him in the back of the head.

“That’s enough of that.” Their cousin admonished both of them. “We got to get that boy back down this mountain before he wakes back up. That will be a hell of a lot easier to accomplish if the two of you would cooperate.”

What Mac really meant was, if they didn’t cooperate, he was going to hurt them. Mac might not have been little, but that didn’t make him any less mean than Travis, who, thankfully, was on a business trip.
